Here at O.N.G, we’re always thinking about ways that we can reduce our environmental impact and do some good. That’s one of the reasons we chose to go into business. So when we found ourselves with a large number perfectly good boxes after ordering our first stock in November, we couldn’t bring ourselves to throw them out. Since then, we’ve been thinking about what we can do with all these boxes.
Whilst we love recycling and aim to recycle all our waste as a business, we’re also aware that re-using materials uses much less energy than recycling. Recycling can also result in what is called “Down-cycling” where an inferior product is produced. So whilst it’s great to recycle, re-using is even better. After some thought and deliberation on whether it’s the right thing to do, we’ve decided to put our spare boxes to good use! You’re probably wondering what we’ve decided to do with them all? Well, we’ll re-use any box that is in a condition that we would be happy to receive a delivery in. We honestly don’t think you’d notice the difference, except that we’ve now told you what we’re doing.
We also worked out; as we’re sure you have at this point, that re-using a box saves us money. Rather than act as a greedy banker type and pay ourselves some kind of extortionate bonus, for each box we manage to re-use we’ll donate 25p to Charity. We’re only small, having launched in December 2011, so we’ll let you know when we’ve re-used 200 boxes which will mean a £50 donation to charity. Rather than us decide, we think that as our customers you’ll know plenty of charities where even a small donation such as £50 can really make a difference. So each time we reach that landmark we’ll ask for your feedback about what charities are important to you and then make a final decision. Not only will we make the donation, but we’ll also provide the equivalent amount in a choice of natural beauty products to help them with further fund raising. It’s just one of the ways we’re trying to make a difference.
